Malcolm Ellison earned a Bachelor of Commerce (Great Distinction) from McGill University in 2001, with a Major in Marketing and a Concentration in Strategic Management. Following graduation, he worked for a prominent national advertising agency in Toronto.

In 2006, Malcolm joined MacKay LLP as an articling student. In that year, he also completed his prerequisites for the CA School of Business through UBC's Diploma in Accounting program. He has enjoyed a range of work experience from personal and corporate tax to reviews and audits. He was admitted a member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of BC in January 2010.

Malcolm has travelled in North America, South America and Europe. In addition, he spent a year in Japan teaching English and completing an internship at the Canadian Consulate in Nagoya. Malcolm enjoys running, cycling, and playing soccer.
